Inventions during the Industrial Revolution led the advancement of technology over the years. The First Industrial Revolution (Industry 1.0) developed the aspects of manufacturing and transportation. Moreover, it is recognized as the invention of steam engine and used of waterpower. After a hundred years later, Industry 2.0 stood for the machines working by the usage of electricity which is way more efficient and productive. Hence, this was the beginning of the factory system. Around 1950, computer and automation system started to access in the factories, and Industry 3.0 began. During the third Industrial Revolution, manufacturers mostly focused more on digital technology rather than mechanical technology and this significance activity passed down to the today’s industrial revolution which is known as Industry 4.0. These effects built up the development of smart system and factories started to use this system to increase productivity in efficient way with less human interaction. This revolution leads the purpose of exchanging, inter-connected or transferring data with other network systems over the internet. Nowadays, the technology called “Internet of Thing (IoT)” is becoming popular and making better outcomes for businesses around the world. According to the September 2019 Survey of 2029 business leaders in technology, IoT was at 72% which is the highest, and AI with 68% which is second highest among other technologies.
The capability of IoT is that it can work with any wireless or wire communications. Moreover, systems or machines can communicate with each other without human involvement. According to the production process of smart factories, materials and machines are inter-connected within an internet of things which results in maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort. IoT has three layers things, gateway, and cloud. Things identified as household appliances, PCs, smart devices, routers, switches and so on. The second layer is consisting of wireless technologies such as BLE, RFID, Wi-Fi, ethernet, PLC and LTE. The last important part of IoT is cloud which used for gathering data, storing, processing, and visualization.
The key industrial standard of Industry 4.0 is a technology since it includes internet of things (IoT) and smart manufacturing. It also creates advanced systems for industries to connect their machines and operations with digital technology, machine learning, big data analytics and preventive functions. This is also because “technology” makes people’s lives more convenient, easy, productive, less time-consuming, and led to better standard of living.
Industry 4.0 has been advanced as it takes the inter-connectivity between physical and digital to a whole new level. It allows access to real-time data, comprehensive and improved processes, and productivity rate. According to my point of view, to produce sustainable products and building a successful business, Industry 4.0 technology plays a noticeably key role since we can be able to manage, gain access to the real-time data, quick decisions, boost the productivity and efficiency of our manufacturing processes and supply chain optimization.
